Here’s the bad news: every day there is something posted or aired that gets under our skin, becomes the thorn in our side or makes our blood boil. This kind of energy is having a secret yet detrimentally explosive effect on our mental, physical, emotional and Spiritual health. Here’s the really bad news: most of us have no idea how influential and pervasive this negative conditioning has become.
From anxiety to depression, from anger and frustration to feeling out of the loop or not belonging, we are influenced by all the conditioning and manipulation. Social Media alone is changing how we relate to each other. We vent in secret, from a Facebook screen and we feel we can say and feel whatever we want with little consequence because we’re not face to face. The distance we now have from real relationships, effective communication skills and ethical, fair behaviour is widening. Social Media has become the New York Ad Agency bent on selling whatever, to whoever, however and all without a conscience. Being manipulated is happening 24/7 and the scary part is that we aren’t filtering anything anymore because the agenda is becoming impossible to see. Awe is on a Mission and we are taking this ‘very’ seriously.
First off, we are not salespeople and we just don’t have the stomach to be salespeople, in the modern way. We are regularly disgusted by the tactics employed by salespeople – no matter where we go, in the brick and mortar world and online too. I’ll give you a perfect example. We recently went to buy a car. We were looking at two Smart Cars at one dealership, one was a diesel, the other was gas. We drove both, and while we really like the mileage and drive in the diesel, it was $2000 more and didn’t fit our budget. We found out quickly that the dealership wanted to sell the diesel only because they went about making the figures for the gas car so ridiculous that no one in their right mind would buy it. What had started out as $2000 less, suddenly became more expensive than the diesel. It was clear they were trying to trick us into buying the diesel. In fact, they literally took the other car off the table. The salesperson also thought we couldn’t see what he was doing. We left, and will not ever go back there or recommend them to friends.
If I feel like I’m being scammed, pushed, dealt with, cornered, conned, manipulated or watched, I have been around long enough to be able to see it. When I go grocery shopping, if something isn’t priced, I won’t buy it. And I will not shop in any store that discounts prices just for their card holders because I refuse to be forced to share my shopping habits so they can sell more to me next time. The cell phone market is another prime example. My daughter-in-law was showing me her new cell phone I knew she couldn’t afford. I asked her how much she was paying. She said, “I get unlimited free texting, free incoming calls after 6pm, and free calls on the weekend.” I asked her again, “And what are you paying?” Her reply nearly knocked me over. “Only eighty dollars a month.” I replied, “That’s a lot of money for all that free stuff!
